Lighter Me & New Momentum in Pursuing This Project

Saturday, July 9, 2011

Three months after, I am excitedly updating this blog and enjoying a new-found momentum for my abs project.

Moments ago, I put out my old weighing scale. I am glad that I now weigh less than 60 kilograms, around 58 kgs some give and take. My body mass index at 22.7 shows I'm currently at my ideal weight.

Prior to checking my weight, I did some 5 full push-ups. In sports parlance, I am on fire.

On one hand, I was discouraged to update this blog because I failed to follow my project plan. However, my fitness plan got an unlikely boosts.

Nearing two months now, I have been, unintentionally at that, performing a physical activity daily. Being out of work coupled with my father's health problems, I have no choice but to be in-charged with purchasing products to be sold at our small sari-sari store.

Walking to and from the supermarket, carrying grocery bags of varying weights, served to be my daily work-out. Sometimes, I get to do that twice in a day. Every now and then, I'd do sit-ups and push-ups.

3 different persons already commented that I lost weight. One said I don't look good being so. While another praised the seeming reduction on my love handles. The third one is my girlfriend, so her point of view might be biased towards making me feel good. Hehehe!

But weighing myself today proved that I really lost some weight. That is a welcome validation and a source of new-found momentum for me to get back on track on my abs project.

Still, there's so much to do. Even my abs-project 2011 resolution is hard to accomplish on a regular basis.

But the good thing is, until I find a new job, I will be obliged with this informal workout. My abs project surely wouldn't mind.

My Two Abs-Project-Related New Year's Resolution

Thursday, January 6, 2011

I will join the chorus of this time - New Year's Resolutions - for my overall health and, of course, my abs-project in 2011.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas.

Luckily for me, I wasn't worried at all on what could've eaten this past holiday season. Rather, I was more concerned on how to afford what will be our holiday feast.

So, my first resolution for 2011 is to always eat on time. Because missing a meal often lead to late-night binges, extra rice and all. All the calories happily stored by my beer belly because I will soon dozed off to sleep. The main focus of this resolution is to eat a lot. Yes! You read that right. Eat a lot, ONLY on breakfast.

My second New Year's resolution is to sleep enough hours. Rightly so because accordingly;
A sleep schedule is vital to any weight-loss plan, say Wake Forest University researchers who tracked study participants for 5 years. In the under-40 age group, people who slept 5 hours or less each night gained nearly 2½ times as much abdominal fat as those who logged 6 to 7 hours; also, those who slept 8 hours or longer added nearly twice as much belly fat as the 6- to 7-hour group. People with sleep deficits tend to eat more (and use less energy) because they’re tired, says study coauthor Kristen Hairston, M.D., while those who sleep longer than 8 hours a night tend to be less active.

I think that these two resolutions are realistic and achievable enough for me this 2011. Happy 2011 to everyone! And may all our resolutions, including my abs-project, be achieved this year!

Hitting Two Huge Birds with One Pebble

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Sometime in the past, officemate Sab commented about the taste of the food served at our building canteen is becoming stale for her taste buds.

Ting! A Hit-two-birds-with-one-stone idea!

I can only agree to this observation but some bright idea came to me. I just thought that Sab can use the situation, unwelcome as it is, to work in her favor.

As of the moment, she is in the midst of a biggest-loser bet with a close friend and she is often whining about that she needs to save money.

Well, if she just suck it in, for the next couple of months at least, she can really hit two birds with one stone. Oops! Let me correct myself. That would mean hitting two huge birds with one pebble.

Eating in our building canteen can save Sab some money instead of walking to nearby Shangri La Plaza where she has a lot of delicious choice but pricier most of the time. Besides, if the taste is not that delicious, she would surely not order extra servings.

Adding two and two means that would be better for her wallet and lesser for her weight. And since she claims to help me with my abs project, I sure can return the favor.
